L01 - Boronda home - An Indian family lived here (mother and two sons, Tim & Ed). The day of the 1942 fire, Wayne and Ray could see signs of smoke while eating lunch. They went to the top of the canyon (Dougherty's place) and saw it heading this way. They first intended to go try to save the Boronda house, but the fire was coming too fast. It headed up the canyon shown in the photo below, and crested the ridge at the Daugherty place (see C13; press "Back" to return here). Fortunately, the Boronda place was spared without their help. In fact--miraculously--no occupied homes burned down, but many if not all unoccupied homes in its path were lost. (35.8599941, -121.063991)
